Circle of Confusion
Photograph of white board drawing (now erased) filtered in Hipstamatic.

The remnants of a lecture on The Circle of Confusion, the point where parts of an image look out of focus. It is the explanation of how depth-of-field works. No, this was not “on the test”.  ;-)

Day 67 on Flickr.
Day 67: Walking down Delmar today, I saw they were putting in a new sidewalk with built in quotes. I’ve always loved the phrase “C’est la vie”. It’s French and loosely translates to “such is life”. Every time I go to Delmar I find something else interesting.

Have My Views Changed?

signing:

Have my views changed?  Yes and no.  You see I still believe that everybody is an artist.  Maybe not everybody is creative but still everybody has the potential to create.  I mean how could you not be an artist and say that something looks appealing to you?  It doesn’t have to be just in an art gallery, it could be anywhere or anything.  Oh wait, anything?  What am I saying when I say that everything is art?  I’m not trying to say that a rock is art, although I may be pushing my views on art to mere extremes by saying an automobile or a table is art.  Art essentially is functional and has a use to it.  There are others who say that if everything is art, then nothing is art.  So what is art?  So many theologians, philosophers and artists over the centuries have come up with their own definition of art.  So yes there may be a universal definition of art, but there are also those definitions we come up with on our own.  Do those count?  Putting aside all the talk about what is art, can we come up with our own definition of art?  Going back, I ask myself again is there such a thing as ‘ugly art’?  If art is visually appealing to the viewer there must be a hint of truth to it.  For it to be called beautiful or to have that stigma attached to it, there must be truth to it don’t you think?  If the artwork is not visually appealing then it is ugly.  On the other hand, someone had to of made it with a purpose, at least we think.  So even though the artwork may be ‘ugly,’ there is still beauty to it so long as the creator had a purpose or reason for it.
